Brentford FC Women’s First Team progressed to the Third Round of the London and South East Regional League Trophy after defeating Parkwood Rangers 3-1 with the aid of Extra Time.

The sides could not be separated in 90 minutes as Jodie Reid found the equaliser for The Bees, who initially went a goal down. This was followed by a goal in each half of Extra Time, the first of which came from Sophie Troth and the second by First Team debutant Chloe Logie; a striker making the step up from the B Team.

Logie was one part of a trio of players who made their First Team debuts, Cara Graham and Eleonora Cottrell also got the chance to impress at a higher level. Support coach Charlotte Tanner, who works between both the First Team and the B Team, was delighted that three players got the opportunity to step up.

She said: "Today, three B Team players managed to step up and I’m thrilled for all of them. Chloe Logie scored a goal, Cara bossed it at the back and Ella did well out wide."

It was Parkwood Rangers who took the lead around 30 minutes into the game. Emily Boycott in the Brentford goal had a short pass intercepted and was punished. A cross from the left side of the box found a Rangers player and their first effort was saved, however a teammate was on hand to follow in and tap home the rebound.

The home side built momentum in the second half and nearly had an equaliser when Ellen Wardlaw’s cross was awkward for the opposing keeper who could only spill the ball towards her own goal. Despite heavy protests from The Bees the referee deemed that the ball had not fully crossed the line.

Shortly after Brentford had the goal their pressure in the second half warranted. Jodie Reid delivered a wicked in-swinging cross from the right that deceived everybody, including the Parkwood keeper, eventually finding its way into the net through her legs.

There was a brilliant start to Extra Time for Brentford as Troth provided an unbelievable goal. The midfielder had tried her luck from distance a few times in the match, this time she struck from about 40 yards out and the ball flew over the keeper before hitting the underside of the crossbar and down into the net.

Ten minutes before the end Troth nearly added another to her goal tally. Full of confidence from her first goal, she unleashed a powerful effort from the edge of the box that crashed against the bar.

Brentford made sure of their progression deep into Extra Time as debutant striker Logie got onto the scoresheet. A corner deceived a lot of bodies in the box, but the number nine was ready and waiting to tap home, which rounded off a good day for The Bees.

They'll face one of Watford Devs or Newhaven Ladies in the next round, the pair face off this weekend.
