There were seven goals in each half in a game which saw Nathan Young-Coombes grab five to take his season total to 34 goals, whilst Dom Jefferies picked up a hat-trick, Alex Gilbert got two and there were also goals for Deji Sotona, Ben Hockenhull, Val Adedokun and a Trialist.

It was one-way traffic throughout as The Bees dominated the ball and went ahead on five minutes when Gilbert assisted Young-Coombes who finished from close range. Five minutes later Ryan Trevitt turned provider when he laid the ball on for Gilbert to finish with his right foot.

On 13 minutes it became three then Trevitt once again caused havoc as he combined with Jeffereries before the ball was crossed low. Adedokun smashed an effort goalwards, but for a block, but the rebound fell kindly for him to lash in at the second attempt. It was four on 20 minutes when Young-Coombes took advantage of a large gap through the Cartagena central defenders as he went through to finish with precision. The fifth came when Jefferies’ fine work paid off when he finished from close range and that preceded Hockenhull’s first goal in a Brentford shirt since joining as he rose highest to head home from a corner.

Three minutes before the break it was seven as Jefferies grabbed another with a shot from a tight angle, and with the help of a minor deflection, the ball outwitted the keeper to end up in the top corner going into half-time.

The second half saw The Bees begin in the same form as they were hungry for more goals, and just one minute after the referee resumed play, Gilbert notched his second with another smart finish following more intricate Brentford play as it became 8-0. Young-Coombes grabbed his hat-trick on 54 minutes which preceded a smart finish at the near post by a Trialist after some good play out wide by Wraynel Hercules, who was frequently a threat after coming on. Jefferies got his hat-trick 20 minutes from time with a wonderful curl into the top corner to make it 11, whilst Young-Coombes extended his tally with a quick fire double with close range finishes. Substitute Sotona then finished form the edge of the box to make it 14-0 as the referee blew for full-time.
