A Brentford XI drew 0-0 with Leyton Orient this afternoon in East London.

An opening chance for Fin Stevens got things going, the ball in from Nathan Young-Coombes finding his teammate perfectly. Dan Moss got across for Orient to deny what looked like it might be an early goal.

Álvaro Fernández was called into action next, blocking a shot by Dan Nkrumah with his legs to concede a corner. He was tested by the same man again minutes later, this time diving across his line to parry away a dangerous looking effort from distance.

B Team winger Ryan Trevitt had the ball in the net after quarter of an hour but the referee ruled it out. As O’s keeper Sam Sargeant knocked the ball away from goal it appeared to have struck Trevitt on the hand before going in.

After half an hour, it looked like Orient would take a certain lead as the ball rebounded kindly to Nkrumah off Fernández. With the goal gaping, the striker nodded the ball agonizingly wide of the target.

At the other end, before the break, Sargeant continued his fine form to make a stunning double save. First, he stopped Trevitt and was then back on his feet to parry a Shandon Baptiste rebound from finding the net.

After the interval, during which Jonas Lössl subbed in for Fernández between the sticks, the home side got their first chance after Zanka tangled with Jephte Tanga. Matt Young fired the resulting free-kick over the crossbar.

Baptiste tried to catch out Orient’s sub keeper Rhys Byrne after an hour but he was able to watch the ball just over his crossbar. He was also relieved to see the next chance by Zanka, taking a wicked deflection off Young-Coombes, drift narrowly wide of the post.

Zanka could have won it late on but he headed a Saman Ghoddos corner inches north of the bar with Byrne stranded in a sea of bodies.
