Brentford B's Roy Syla speaks to The Athletic about his international pursuits

Young midfielder discusses featuring for Albania Under-21s against England

30 April 2022

It's been quite a season for Brentford B's Roy Syla, who arrived with The Bees at the beginning of the campaign after trial period. His development with the B Team saw him gain his first Under-21 call-up for Albania, who he had previously represented in previous years at Under-17 and Under-19 levels. Recently, Roy caught up with The Athletic's Jay Harris to discuss coming up against some of the best talent in England, and his development under Neil MacFarlane this season.

"Pennyhill Park has become the base of operations for Brentford’s B team for the final few weeks of the 2021-22 season. While construction work takes place at the Jersey Road site to build a new temporary training facility for the entire club’s use, Neil MacFarlane’s squad have settled nicely into their new environment, which is normally used by England’s men’s rugby union side.

"The Athletic visits the luxury hotel in the Surrey countryside south west of London two days after Brentford B lost to Barnet in the final of the Middlesex FA Senior Challenge Cup on penalties, following a 1-1 draw. It was a disappointing result, but the players and coaching staff have already switched their attention to their next challenge."
