Brentford have a break from Premier League action this week as they continue a Carabao Cup run. The Bees beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0 yesterday thanks to goals from Ivan Toney and Bryan Mbeumo. The next Premier League fixture is next weekend but before that Oldham Athletic come to town for a Carabao Cup Third Round tie.

Brentford's win yesterday was their second in five Premier League games. The Bees sit ninth in the early table and have one of the best defensive records, having conceded just two goals. Only Brighton and Hove Albion, among the early pace-setters, have beaten Brentford this season.

The Carabao Cup tie against Oldham will be played on Tuesday, 22 September, at our new stadium. It will kick-off at 7.45pm. The prize will be a place in the last 16 of the Carabao Cup. Brentford reached this stage with a win over Forest Green Rovers, like Oldham, a Sky Bet League Two side. The Bees came from behind to win 3-1 as Yoane Wissa, Bryan Mbeumo and Marcus Forss scored.

Oldham beat Accrington Stanley to reach the Third Round. The Greater Manchester side won a penalty shoot-out after the tie had finished 0-0. They had previously beaten Tranmere Rovers in the First Round, also on penalties after a 2-2 draw.

Oldham do, however, currently sit bottom of the EFL. They drew 0-0 with Hartlepool United last night to claim their fourth point of the campaign, from eight games. They are three points adrift of safety at this early stage.

Tickets for the tie are on General Sale. Full ticket information can be seen here. Brentford fans that cannot attend can listen live on Bees Player. Full information on the service can be seen here.

The teams have not met since the 2013/14 season. Brentford won promotion from League One that season and took four points from Oldham, winning at Griffin Park and drawing the return fixture. The Bees completed home and away doubles over Oldham in the 2011/12 and 2012/13 seasons. Oldham have not scored against or beaten Brentford in six meetings, stretching back to 2011.

Brentford will be looking to repeat the success of last year. The Bees beat four Premier League sides on their way to the Semi-Final. It was the first time Brentford had ever reached the last four of a major competition. It was also only the third time ever, after the 1982/83 and 2010/11 seasons, that Brentford had got past the Third Round.

Brentford's run came to an end against Tottenham Hotspur; The Bees having beaten Southampton, West Brom, Fulham and Newcastle United to reach that stage. Tottenham then lost to Manchester City in the Final in April.
