After making Carabao Cup progress last night, Brentford are back in Premier League action on Saturday and face one of the three teams setting the pace at the top of the table. The Bees beat Oldham Athletic 7-0 last night in a Carabao Cup Third Round tie, to make it back-to-back wins after victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers last Saturday. Next up Liverpool are in West London for a match that will be played on Saturday 25 September and kick-off at 5.30pm.

As well as reaching the last 16 of the Carabao Cup, Brentford have taken eight points from their first five Premier League games. They have won one and lost one at home so far this term, beating Arsenal and losing to Brighton and Hove Albion. That leaves Brentford ninth in the early table.

Liverpool have taken 13 points from their first five games. The only match they have failed to win was at home to Chelsea, who are the only team above them in the table, albeit on alphabetical order. Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United all have 13 points from their first five games with Brighton just one point back.

Liverpool have won both their away games 3-0 so far. They started the season with a win at Norwich City and also won the by same score line at Leeds United. The Red - who won the Premier League in 2019/20 and the UEFA Champions League the season before - also beat Norwich in the Carabao Cup last night.

The teams are infrequent foes and this will be the first league meeting between the teams since 1947, when Brentford were relegated from the top flight, only making it back this season. The teams met ten times in five seasons in the 1930s and 40s with Brentford winning three and Liverpool four. The Reds have won four cup ties since, the last being an FA Cup Sixth Round match in 1989.
