Brentford midfield player Mads Bidstrup has been called up to the Denmark Under-21 squad. The 20-year-old will link up with his international team mates next Monday, 4 October. Denmark play Scotland next Thursday, 7 October, before a match with Belgium on Tuesday 12 October.

The pair of matches are both qualification games for the 2023 UEFA European Under-21 Championships. Qualification began earlier this month and Denmark beat Kazakhstan in their first game. They are currently second in Qualification Group I, behind Belgium, who have won two games from two so far. The group winners are assured of qualification while the team that finishes second also have a chance.

The tournament will take place in Romania and Georgia in the summer of 2023. The qualification process will run until November 2022. Denmark will be looking to repeat their efforts in the 2021 event when a squad that included Brentford pair Mads Bech and Mads Roerslev lost on penalties in the Quarter Final to eventual winners Germany.

Mads Bidstrup made his Under-21 international debut last month. He played in a friendly against Greece and in the win over Kazakhstan. Prior to his debut at that level, Mads played for Denmark at every age group from Under-16 to Under-19 and now has 24 caps for his country at all levels.
