Brentford goalkeeper David Raya has spoken in-depth about his first days as a Premier League goalkeeper. David has kept clean sheets in three of Brentford's six games and has conceded just five goals as The Bees have lost just once. Before the 3-3 draw against Liverpool at the weekend, David discussed the start of his season with Times reporter Alyson Rudd.

The conversation looked at how David ended up at Brentford, with him moving from Spain to join Blackburn Rovers when he was a teenager. He outlined why he grew up in Barcelona but supported Real Madrid - family ties - and discussed a variety of other topics. This included why Brentford had started the season with a solid defence.

“It’s a team effort," said David. "It starts from the striker and finishes with me: we communicate, we are compact and work for each other so that makes it difficult for the opponent. It’s not just goals we haven’t conceded, we haven’t given away many big chances.”

The interview also talks about the 2020 Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Final, which Brentford lot to Fulham, and how The Bees bounced back. David also discusses how he helps the team with a vocal presence from defence. The interview can be seen in full here. Please note, The Times website is behind a paywall.
