"Playing with ten is not easy but it is better when you always work for each other"

Bryan Mbeumo's thoughts on Saturday's Wolves win

19 September 2021

Bryan Mbeumo admitted that getting a first league goal of the season under his belt will be a big confidence boost. The 22-year-old converted Ivan Toney's pull-back to make it 2-0 against Wolverhampton Wanderers yesterday as we sealed our first ever away win in the Premier League. Having passed up opportunities in previous games, Bryan told brentfordfc.com after the game that his first league goal is a weight off his shoulders.

"I am very happy to score," said Bryan. "I had a few chances in previous games but now the first goal is here. I am working hard for the team and now the goal has come. It is all about the three points so I am happy today. When you have some chances and miss, your confidence can go down. When you get the goal it makes things easier for the next chances."

Bryan was set up by strike-partner Toney, who also got the opener from the penalty spot. With both the front two on target, and combining well with each other, Bryan feels this is a relationship which is only going to blossom further.

"I’m enjoying playing with Ivan," revealed Bryan. "I [played in a two] with my old team and I think I’m starting to get a really good relationship with Ivan now. We work hard in training and are very good friends off the pitch which helps a lot."

Thomas Frank's side had to play the final 25 minutes with ten men at Molineux following Shandon Baptiste's dismissal. Bryan was one of three players, alongside Christian Norgaard and Vitaly Janelt, to cover more than 11 kilometres yesterday and he feels the work ethic instilled in the team made it easier to cope with the man disadvantage.

"We always work for each other," the French Under-21 international said. "Playing with ten is not easy but it is better when you have the structure in your team and always work for each other. It is a very good win."

The win means we've now taken eight points from our opening five games which Bryan feels represents a fine start.

"We’ve made a good start as we’ve only lost one game so far," said Bryan. "We have been working hard as a team. We are very solid and it has been a good start."

And Bryan reserved the final word for the travelling Bees at the game yesterday: "They were amazing. When we are away it is always full and I want to say thank you to them."
