Yoane Wissa has conducted his first in-depth interview since his move to Brentford. The Democratic Republic of Congo international joined The Bees from French side Lorient in August. He has made a great start to his career in England, scoring five goals so far.

Three of those goals have come in the Carabao Cup and he also has two Premier League goals under his belt. He scored the final goal as Brentford earned a 3-3 draw with Liverpool after coming on as a substitute in late September. He performed the same trick to even better effect against West Ham United soon after, scoring the winner.

Yoane picked up an injury ahead of our match against Chelsea last Saturday but spoke to Sam Dean, of The Telegraph, in the run up to the match. He spoke about his first steps in football, which were as a goalkeeper, and how he used to play rugby. He also explained that his dreams of playing football seemed so far away that he thought about becoming an astronaut.

“It was not like I wanted to be a footballer,” he said. “I loved football, but I played at a lower level. I could not believe that I could become a football player. If you wanted to be a footballer you had to be in the best team in the area, and I was with lesser teams.

“I am not a Premier League superstar! I have only scored twice in the league. It is just the beginning."

The full interview with Wissa looks at his first days as a Premier League player and becoming a part of the Brentford "family". That includes detail on how he had to change his game to deal with the English top flight. See the piece here.
