Michael Salisbury to take charge of Carabao Cup clash

Match Officials confirmed for Wednesday's trip to Stoke City

26 October 2021

We head to The Potteries tomorrow night with a place in the Quarter-Final of the Carabao Cup the prize on offer. Both The Bees and Wednesday's hosts, Stoke City, reached the last eight of this competition last season before bowing out to Tottenham Hotspur. Get the lowdown on Wednesday's match officials below.

Referee: Michael Salisbury

Assistant Referees: Richard West and Sam Lewis

Fourth Official: Robert Jones

Like The Bees, Michael Salisbury was celebrating promotion in the summer as one of four officials added to the Select Group 1 of top flight referees for the 2021/22 campaign. That promotion came just a year after he was added to the Select Group 2 of Sky Bet Championship officials.

Michael was influenced to take up the whistle by his father, Graham, who ended his own 21-year career as an EFL referee at the end of last season.

After progressing through his local leagues in Preston, Salisbury's first taste of the professional game came in 2010 as an Assistant Referee in the Football League. Five years later he was added to the National League referees list, a year before progressing to the EFL list.

Since then, Michael has officiated in eight different countries and visited Wembley Stadium six times, refereeing the Sky Bet League Two Play-Off Final in June 2020 which saw Charlie Goode and Northampton Town run out 4-0 winners against Exeter City.

Salisbury's only two Brentford appointments so far have both ended in Sky Bet Championship wins for Thomas Frank's side. They came courtesy of last November's 3-0 success at Luton Town and April's 1-0 home win over Rotherham United.

So far this campaign there have been 15 yellow cards and three reds handed out in Salisbury's five matches.

Stoke City 21/22

150 fouls - 11th in Sky Bet Championship

25 yellow cards - 14th in Sky Bet Championship

1 red card - 3rd most in Sky Bet Championship

Tickets for tomorrow's game are now off sale. Brentford fans that cannot attend can listen live on BeesPlayer
