Friday's international action ends in stalemate for two Bees

Our round-up of last night's matches

9 October 2021

Halil Dervişoğlu and Patrik Gunnarsson were both unused substitutes last night as Turkey and Iceland recorded a pair of 1-1 draws in 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifying.

The point for Turkey at home to Norway keeps them well within striking distance at the top of Group G. Kerem Aktürkoğlu scored the early opener in Istanbul before Norway equalised through Kristian Thorstvedt on the stroke of half-time. With three games to play, starting against Latvia on Monday, Turkey trail Norway by two points with Netherlands a further two points clear at the top of the group.

Halil, currently on loan at Galatasaray, has scored twice in six appearances for his nation.

It looks like the end of the road for Patrik and Iceland in qualifying after last night’s draw at home to Armenia left them seven points off second-place in Group J with only three to play. It could have been worse were it not for Ísak Bergmann Jóhannesson’s 77th minute equaliser following Kamo Hovhannisyan’s first-half opener. Iceland host the group’s bottom side Liechtenstein on Monday at the Laugardalsvöllur.

Patrik is still to make his senior debut for Iceland having won 12 caps at Under-21 level.
