Next Up: Leicester City

Consecutive home games as Bees host Leicester next week

17 October 2021

Brentford were beaten for only the second time in their first eight Premier League games yesterday, and will have to wait eight days to put it right. The Bees lost 1-0 to Chelsea yesterday afternoon as the Premier League's West London derby was decided by a goal from England international Ben Chilwell at the end of the first half. Next on the agenda is a clash with FA Cup holders Leicester City next Sunday, 24 October.

The match was shifted to the Sunday as Leicester are in UEFA Europa League action in midweek. Most Europa League games are played on Thursday evenings and this game was shifted to 2pm on Sunday to accomodate. Leicester will face Spartak Moscow in their Europa League game but that will take place on Wednesday, 20 October.

The defeat to Chelsea yesterday was an unfortunate one for The Bees. They hit the woodwork twice and had most of the big chances, but could not find a way through. The loss leaves Brentford with 12 points from eight games and they will end the day ninth in the table if Tottenham Hotspur complete a win over Newcastle United. Arsenal can also jump above The Bees if they beat Crystal Palace tomorrow.

Leicester will be looking to become the third team to beat The Bees in West London this term after Chelsea and Brighton and Hove Albion. Their win over Manchester United yesterday was their first since the end of August and third of the campaign. Leicester sit 11th in the table, two places and a single point behind Brentford.

They will also be making their second visit to our new stadium next Sunday. Leicester beat Brentford 3-1 in an FA Cup tie on a snowy Sunday at the end of January. Mads Bech put Brentford in front but Leicester responded and went on to win the competition at Wembley Stadium in May.

The teams have met in consecutive Fourth Round ties in the FA Cup with Leicester winning both. They also won 1-0 in our last FA Cup tie at Griffin Park in January 2020. The last league meetings between the teams came in the 1992/93 season. Brentford won both second tier meetings in the 1952/53 season but have not beaten Leicester in eight league and cup games since.
