Brentford FC became the first Premier League club to build a pitch side Sukkah, late last month, and welcome local people from nearby communities to join them inside. A Sukkah is a temporary hut built by Jewish communities in the festival of Sukkot to commemorate the time God provided for the Israelites in the wilderness during biblical times in Egypt. One was built next to the hallowed turf at our new stadium at the end of September by Brentford legend and former Premier League striker Marcus Gayle with the assistance of the Club’s Head of EDI Kevin Yusuf Coleman.
The building of the Sukkah was part of the efforts to embed inclusion into the Club’s operations. Brentford representatives shared food and discussion with local faith communities and community stakeholders inside the Sukkah. See the full story here.
The Sukkah-in-the-Stadium also attracted media interest. The Jewish News reported on the event as did Asian Voice. It was also covered in he Jewish Chronicle here.
Sitting with @BrentfordFC chair @CliffCrown in the Sukkah-in-the-Stadium event at Brentford Community Stadium tonight. This is a first. It’s the first time a @premierleague club has built a Sukkah and hosted both members of the Jewish and wider community. #Bees #Community pic.twitter.com/1t0p9oakDm
