The youngster, who has made 11 appearances for the young Bees so far this season, has already headed out to Dubai for an initial training camp before the squad selection was finalised for the matches which will be held in Tajikistan.

Australia Under-23s will play two fixtures, the first on 27 October and then on 30 October with both games kicking off at 5pm local time.

The side had been scheduled to play Indonesia, as well as China PR and Brunei Darussalam in Group G of Asian qualifying, but after the latter two nations withdrew from qualifying, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) amended the group matches and Lachlan and his teammates will need to defeat Indonesia in a two-legged tie to advance to the tournament in Uzbekistan next year.

Lachlan has been involved with the national team throughout his youth career but this call-up is the first time he will join up with his nation since his arrival in West London in October 2020. The 20-year-old has netted twice this season under Neil MacFarlane and he’ll be aiming to continue his positive performances when he lines up on Wednesday for the side.
