When Christian Nørgaard scored for Denmark on Saturday night, he joined a very select group of Brentford players. Denmark beat Moldova 4-0 in a qualification match for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and Christian scored the third of the four goals. Denmark have won all seven of their games in UEFA qualification Group F and play their eighth, against Austria, tomorrow, Tuesday 12 October. Victory will confirm a place at the tournament next winter.

Christian’s moment came in the 39th minute. He converted from a corner to notch for his country for the first time. It came just weeks after his first Premier League goal, against Arsenal. It also came on his 13th appearance for his country and only four men have earned more international caps while with The Bees. One of those is his team mate for club and country Mathias Jensen and both are hunting the Club Record of 22 caps while with The Bees, which is held by another Danish international – Henrik Dalsgaard.

Christian is one of only 50 men to have played international football while with The Bees, but he is also in a more select club. He is now one of only 13 players to have scored for their countries while with Brentford. Four others – Mathias, Halil Dervişoğlu, Marcus Forss, Tariqe Fosu – are still with The Bees and the list has gone from eight to 13 in just over a year.

The Club Record is jointly held by Halil, currently on loan from Brentford to Galatasaray Spor Kulübü in Turkey, and Idris Hopkins, better known as Dai, who have scored two each. Part of the great team of the 1930s that could have won the First Division title, Dai played almost 300 league games for The Bees and won 12 caps for Wales. He is a member of the Club’s Hall of Fame and his 80 goals for The Bees is bettered by only nine men. Dai scored two international goals and scored one more in nine Wartime internationals that do not count for official records.

Halil is a Turkey international with six caps to his name. He scored on his debut against Azerbaijan and then against Gibraltar last month. Halil is with Turkey at the moment and could add to his tally tonight, Monday, when they play away to Latvia.
