Brentford FC has announced its intention to do more to collaborate with the Stanmore Jafferys  community of West London. Jafferys, a mainly Shia Muslim community originating from East Africa and South Asian is probably the largest community of its kind in Europe. The football side of the community boasts several mens and womens teams, male and female coaches and several hundred boys and girls playing football every week. Entering competitive teams into local leagues and running the inter-community multi-faith Salaam Cup, Jafferys have become a shining light in West London’s community football scene, winning FA and Middlesex FA awards along the way. The wider Jafferys community boasts around 5,000 members across West London, participating in a plethora of sports and charity events, and the sports club has raised in excess of £300,000 over the last three years for local and international causes.

As part of the Club's efforts to put inclusion at the heart of everything we do, Brentford FC are keen to include this large community within its plans, both supporting the community through capacity building activities and also opening up the world of Brentford FC to community members. The collaboration will bring the sides closer together through activities such as joint community and football events, attendance and community feedback on the Brentford stadium experience, participation in Brentford’s Ramadan football league and football participation opportunities through Brentford’s community trust.

The new collaboration was celebrated at Brentford FC stadium with Nazir Rajvani (Head of SJFC), Samina Govani (SJ Ladies Chairlady) and Muhaddisah Mohamedali (SJ Ladies Football Coordinator) representing Stanmore Jafferys and Kevin Yusuf Coleman (Brentford FC Head of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion).

Nazir Rajvani said of the collaboration: “Our community has been embedded in West London for many decades growing steadily in numbers and sport over the years and as such this is a very natural collaboration for Brentford and Stanmore Jafferys. Our younger, and older, people are as football crazy as every other community in England and Brentford’s promotion to the Premier League has only heightened our excitement at this joint future. Over the coming months and years we will work with the club in the spirit of football to improve the futures of both the community and club.”

Muhaddisah Mohamedali said: “Women's football continues to change beyond recognition. It's not an exaggeration to say that we found it difficult to find a competitive girls or ladies league as recently as 2010. Stanmore Jafferys Ladies is passionate about bringing these opportunities to our ladies and girls alike and we want to inspire the new generation of footballers. We are delighted with our joint venture and excited about the prospects of growth as a community club that this will bring."

Kevin Yusuf Coleman said: “I have known Stanmore Jafferys for many years, an inspiring community for whom volunteering to support charity and young people is second nature and from whom I have learnt many life lessons. This collaboration is exciting because it can be so beneficial for both sides, hopefully we will be able to add some of our footballing expertise and at the same time learn from the diverse Jafferys diaspora ways in which the club can engage and attract more people from their community into the Brentford family.”
