Patrik Gunnarsson has retained his spot in the Iceland squad as they prepare for their final two 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers later this month.

Arnar Þór Viðarsson's side still retain the slimmest of hopes of snatching second place and a spot in the Play-Off Round for next winter's World Cup.

To grab second they need to win both their games this month, against Romania at the National Arena, Bucharest, on Thursday 11 November and then North Macedonia at the Toše Proeski Arena, Skopje, on Sunday 14 November and hope that a number of other results go their way.

Patrik is yet to make his senior debut for Iceland, having been an unused substitute for his nation's last five World Cup Qualifiers. The 20-year-old does have 26 youth international caps to his name, including 12 with Iceland's Under-21s.

Patrik is currently on loan with Norweigan Eliteserien side Viking Stavanger. The Brentford B graduate has made three appearances for his new club so far this campaign, those games ending in one win, one draw, and one defeat.
