10 November 2021

A Brentford XI beat Luton Town 4-1 in a friendly played at Hayes & Yeading this afternoon.

First Team Assistant Coach Brian Riemer described the game as an ‘important step’ for members of the squad recovering from injuries. Vitaly Janelt, Shandon Baptiste and Paris Maghoma all got minutes in the squad overseen by Riemer and his fellow Assistant Coach Kevin O’Connor.

The Bees scored two in the first half, Janelt and Peart-Harris netting the goals. Luton got one back right at the start of the second half before Max Haygarth scored a penalty and Nathan Young-Coombes added the fourth.

The first goal came after 33 minutes, Peart-Harris cutting a ball back across the box for Janelt to drill into the bottom right corner.

Ten minutes later, The Bees had a second. Janelt turned provider with a through ball that sliced apart the Luton back line. Peart-Harris drove into the box, chopped onto his left foot and smashed the ball into the top corner. Town goalkeeper James Shea got a hand to it but couldn’t keep it out.

Luton got a goal back within 40 seconds of the restart after half-time. A low cross from the left by Fred Onyedinma was knocked in by Carlos Mendes Gomes, who got in just ahead of Álvaro Fernández.

Within minutes, the two-goal cushion was back. Nathan Young-Coombes was brought down just inside the box by Glen Rea, the referee pointed to the spot. Haygarth stepped up to slot the ball into the bottom corner from 12 yards.

Just before the hour-mark, Young-Coombes was on the scoresheet. Peart-Harris set a ball for Baptiste to collect on the edge of the box. The midfielder slotted a pass to his striker and NYC clipped a shot beyond Shea.
