Match Report and Match Highlights: Woking FC 3 Brentford B 1

Young Bees beaten by National League side

8 November 2021

Brentford B suffered their first defeat since August as they were beaten 3-1 by National League side Woking at the Laithwaite Community Stadium.

A double from Jamar Loza put the home side in command in the first half before they added another shortly after the break through one of their Trialists. Tristan Crama got on the scoresheet for the young Bees late on but they were unable to get themselves back into the game.

It was the hosts who perhaps started the brighter with a series of dangerous deliveries which were dealt with well by the Brentford back line.

Myles Peart-Harris had a good opportunity to put The Bees in front when some incisive play from Paris Maghoma saw the ball pulled to the front post but the midfielder’s low effort was well stopped by Mark Smith in the Woking goal.

There weren't too many chances throughout the first period with Brentford seeing a lot of the ball but the National League side were solid in their shape and made it tough to be broken down.

The opener came just before the half hour mark following a Woking corner which caused havoc and a number of bodies flew in to scramble the ball away before it broke to Loza to fire home from close range.

Having fallen behind the young Bees needed to regain a foothold in the game but they were dealt another blow just a few minutes later when Ben Hockenhull’s pass forward was cut out and cleared forward, and the pace of Loza saw him get in behind the back line before he slipped the ball past Shepperd to make it 2-0 as Neil MacFarlane’s side went into the break with work to do.

Having had a first half which showed moments of promise without that real clinical edge, it was the worst possible start to the second period as a loose touch in midfield saw Brentford punished as Jordan Maguire-Drew crossed for a Trialist to knock home at the far post on the counter-attack.

The heads didn’t drop, though, and Maghoma looked to inspire some positivity when he tricked his way into the Woking box after some good inter play but a last-ditch tackle from Joe McNerney prevented his effort from ending up in the goal.

Five changes came all at once with 23 minutes to play as Lachlan Brook made his return from international duty whilst Dom Jefferies, Roy Syla, Tristan Crama and Jude Russell all entered the field. It didn’t take long for Brook to try his luck as he won the ball well before working himself an angle on the edge of the box but his low effort was well stopped by the Woking keeper.

The Bees pulled one back with a header from Crama as he made a run towards the near post before thumping his effort into the net following a corner to make it 3-1 on 81 minutes. That was all for the action, though, as Woking managed to see out the win
