A special art exhibition is being held in Ealing this weekend. Commissioned by the Football Association, This is England is being held at Pitzhanger Manor and Gallery. The exhibition runs until Sunday, 14 November.
The exhibition features portraits of the full England football squad and manager Gareth Southgate by artist Matt Small together on public display for the first time. The artworks go beyond sporting achievement to celebrate the diversity of what it means to be English today. The paintings depict a group of players from a diverse set of backgrounds who not only made history with their sporting achievement but who collectively inspired the country through their example of teamwork and stance on equality, inclusivity and racial injustice.
The art was commission to mark the delayed UEFA European Championships 2020. The event was held across Europe this summer with England hosting the later stages. The England team, depicted at the exhibition, reached the final, their first major tournament final since 1966.
The England team were beaten by Italy in the final after a memorable month of football, which included a win over Germany and only the second ever Semi-Final victory by our national team. Children can attend free as can anyone who lives in Ealing. More information is here and booking details are here. You can also see more below.
