The young Lions are currently out in Sweden for three fixtures and they got off to the perfect start with a convincing win.

Daniel played the full 90 minutes whilst Matthew was an unused substitute. The goals game from Sam Iling-Junior and Carney Chukwuemeka in the first half before a Dane Scarlett double after the break.

Next up for the side is Switzerland on Saturday 13 November (12noon GMT kick-off) before finishing their group against the hosts Sweden on Tuesday 16 November (5pm GMT kick-off).

The Republic of Ireland Under-19s are also vying for a spot at the same competition and they too got their qualification campaign under way yesterday. They beat Montenegro 3-2 as they are out in Bulgaria for their three fixtures.

Val Adedokun was an unused substitute on the day in a game where Sinclair Armstrong scored twice and a neat finish from Johnny Kenny all in the second half saw Ireland lead 3-0 heading into the closing stages. Montenegro scored two goals in injury time but the Irish held out for the win.

Ireland’s next game sees them take on Bosnia & Herzegovina on Saturday (November 13) before they finish up their qualification group against hosts Bulgaria on Tuesday (November 16.)
