Allan Steele coaches Community Sports Trust session at Gunnersbury Park

B Team Technical Lead coaches session to youngsters

2 November 2021

Brentford B Technical Lead and Assistant Coach Allan Steele was recently able to take charge of a Brentford Community Sports Trust session on the post-16 football education programme at Gunnersbury Park.

Allan, who works within the B Team set up on everything from recruitment to player welfare, has a pro-license coaching qualification and was able to put the young players through their paces.

The post-16 football education programme combines studying for A-Levels or a BTEC Level 3 sports diploma while enhancing football skills with experienced coaches. Students will take part in a rigorous training programme at Gunnersbury Park’s facilities and compete in the Community Education Football Alliance League with the EFL.

Former Brentford B player David Titov and now First Team player Ellery Balcombe have both been enrolled on the course in previous years before making the step into professional football.

Allan has coached on the sessions in previous years and Ryan Peters, who runs the programme, was delighted to once again welcome him to Gunnersbury Park to pass on his knowledge to the young players.

He explained: “For this session we’ve taken some of our more capable players from our programme in Bedfont and Gunnersbury and we’ve invited Allan down to put us through a bit of a masterclass. We want to promote the strong relationship between the Community Trust and Brentford B and Allan plays a part in showcasing that.

“The session gives Allan the opportunity to show the players what is required to become a B Team player and it gives them the chance to put themselves in Allan’s head going forwards. The ability here is good, over the years we’ve managed to get some boys into that B Team group and hopefully more can get an opportunity to show what they can do. The boys want to become professionals so to be able to have Allan come down has helped to raise the boys’ levels is great.”

Discussing his involvement in a recent session and the chance to further strengthen the link between Brentford B and the Community Sports Trust, Allan said: “It’s important to Brentford B to support the Community Sports Trust as much as possible in the great work that they carry out across the local area.

“The session gave me the opportunity to put the young players through an intense session which they would experience should they train with our B Team squad. We’re excited to see how the young players develop and hopefully they can take some key points away from the session. We’ve welcomed past players into Jersey Road in previous seasons to give them the chance to impress and we hope to do the same again.”
