Brentford captain Pontus Jansson has been named in the Sweden squad for the upcoming UEFA European Championships. The Swedish squad for the tournament was named today, Tuesday 18 May. Pontus was chosen in the group and has been given the number 18 shirt.

Sweden will play two friendly internationals before the tournament starts. They face Finland on 29 May and then Armenia on 5 June. They are in Group E for the tournament and will face Spain, Slovakia and Poland. They start their tournament in Seville on 14 June before moving to Russia for their second and third group matches.

Pontus has earned 27 caps for his country, five of which have come since he joined Brentford from Leeds United in the summer of 2019. He was part of the squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and played in the Quarter Final defeat to England. He has also played for his country at Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 level.

Pontus will link up with Sweden when Brentford’s season has finished. He captained The Bees against AFC Bournemouth in the Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Semi-Final last night. The Second Leg of that tie is on Saturday, 22 May. Pontus has played 62 games for The Bees in two seasons where Brentford have finished third in the Championship.
