Match Report: Salford City 2 Brentford B 0

Young Bees beaten in Salford

4 May 2021

Brentford B’s fantastic run of results came to an end on Tuesday afternoon as they fell to a 2-0 defeat against Salford City at The Peninsula Stadium.

There were a number of changes among the side, including 10 Trialists involved in the match day squad, in a game where Salford dominated in terms of chances, and they also missed two penalties.

The hosts had the chance to go ahead on eight minutes following a collision between one of the City players and the Brentford goalkeeper. The penalty could only find the inside of the right-hand post as the ball ricocheted away from danger.

The home side’s dominance in the early stages then told as they took the lead on 17 minutes after a ball through the middle wasn’t dealt with, and that allowed one of the Salford men to work some space on the edge of the box before shooting low into the net.

A good opportunity came for The Bees when Lachlan Brook, who was substituted shortly after over concerns over potential concussion, received the ball just inside the box. Bouncing into his path, he managed to take it well before shooting right footed straight at the keeper.

The second period was just five minutes old when City had the chance to double their lead from the spot following a foul by one of the Trialists. The spot-kick was low to the Trialist keeper’s left, and credit to the youngster, who saved well.

With the score still at 1-0 on the hour mark, Neil MacFarlane looked to his bench for a way back into the game with Aaron Pressley and Kane O’Connor coming off due to being on limited minutes as they continue their recovery from injuries.

A good chance came on 68 minutes when Brentford B managed to break at speed, and a good ball from Wraynel Hercules found one of the Trialists, who worked some space before curling an effort towards goal which the keeper stopped with the help of one of the defenders.

The second goal then arrived, but it came for the hosts with a breakaway following a loose pass, and credit to the striker, who converted with calmness to confirm the win for Salford.
