Halil Dervişoğlu scores but Galatasaray miss out on title

Halil Dervişoğlu found the net again for Galatasaray in their 3-1 victory over Yeni Malatyaspor at home, but their would ultimately be disappointment for the side as they missed out on the Turkish Süper Lig title by just one goal.

It was a tense final day in Turkey as three sides were in with a chance of lifting the trophy going into the games. Beşiktaş were top ahead of the day’s fixtures as they travelled to Göztepe, whilst Fenerbahçe were looking to capitlise on any missed opportunities by second place Galatasaray or Beşiktaş.

Adem Büyük managed to put Malatyaspor ahead shortly before half-time but Halil levelled things eight minutes after the break before Ryan Babel put the side ahead on the hour. The goal difference was then helped when Oğulcan Çağlayan scored in stoppage time, but it wasn’t enough as Beşiktaş managed to collect a narrow 2-1 victory to claim the title.

In the same country, Kasımpaşa rounded off their league campaign with a 2-1 loss at Sivasspor. Julian Jeanvier was unable to return in time to feature again for the side due to a long term injury sustained earlier in the campaign.

In Denmark, there was more minutes and another win of Patrik Gunnarsson and his Silkeborg side. The team have already been promoted and they kept up their good run with a 4-1 victory over HB Køge. They are still one point off of Viborg who sit top and the game was won with goals from Magnus Mattsson, Alexander Lind and Anders Ferslev Klynge.

Joel Valencia was absent as Legia Warsaw rounded off their campaign in the Ekstraklasa with a 1-0 home win over Podbeskidzie. Rafael Lopes grabbed the game’s only goal, though Legia had already been confirmed as champions a number of weeks ago.
