The Irish are out in Spain for a training camp and to play three fixtures, the first of which took place at the Dama de Noche Football Centre.

The starting XI featured a number of new faces to the Ireland Under-21 camp and Alex began the game on the bench as they looked to pick up another friendly win having beaten Wales Under-21s back in March.

It took Switzerland 13 minutes to go ahead when Ireland failed to clear a free-kick into their area and Leonidas Stergiou found the net to make it 1-0.

Despite Ireland threatening on a few occasions, it was the Swiss who were next on the scoresheet as Gabriel Bares found the net in the second half. Alex was introduced for the final 20 but the side were unable to get themselves back into the game.

Next up for Ireland is a match with Australia, once again in Marbella, on Wednesday 2 June.
