Vitaly Janelt's incredible season with Brentford has been rewarded by a recall to the Germany Under-21 squad for this month's European Championship Group Stages in Hungary and Slovenia.
Stefan Kuntz's side are in Group A alongside hosts Hungary, Netherlands, and Romania. The 2009 and 2017 winners begin their campaign against the home nation in Székesfehérvár next Wednesday, 24 March, kick-off 8pm UK time.
Three days later there is a crunch clash against Netherlands, again in Székesfehérvár, kick-off 8pm, before they move on to the Bozsik Aréna, Budapest, to finish up against Romania on Tuesday 30 March, kick-off 5pm.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the knockout stages, which will comprise the group winners and runners-up, are set to be staged between 31 May and 6 June.
Vitaly returns to the the Germany Under-21 group after missing out on the last two squads. He has six caps for his nation at Under-21 level, including four in qualifying for this year's Championships.
The 22-year-old has enjoyed a remarkable debut season in West London following his summer move from VFL Bochum. Vitaly slotted straight into the heart of midfield following Christian Nørgaard's injury and has been an ever-present in the Sky Bet Championship since signing. He netted his first Bees goal in our 2-1 derby win over Queens Park Rangers with a second arriving during our 4-1 win over Middlesbrough last month. He also netted a Goal of the Season contender to complete the turnaround against Stoke City in late February.
