Two more of our young stars are off to the Under-21 European Championships with Mads Bech Sorensen and Mads Roerslev named in the Denmark squad earlier today.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the tournament will be held in two stages with the group games played over the next fortnight before the knockouts take place between 31 May and 6 June.
Denmark are based in Hungary for the group stages with their opening game coming against France at the Haladás Sportkomplexum, Szombathely on Thursday 25 March, kick-off 8pm UK time. The following Sunday they face Iceland at the Ménfői úti Stadion, Győr, kick-off 2pm, before returning to Szombathely for a game against Russia on 31 March, kick-off 5pm.
The Group winners and runners-up will then progress through into the summer finale.
For Mads Roerslev this could be the first game time with his nation since November 2019, having picked up a foot injury while on international duty last September. That injury kept him out of Brentford action until January but he has since made nine appearances in all competitions for Thomas Frank's side. The right-back has four Under-21 caps to his name, two of those coming in qualifying for this tournament.
Mads Bech was a key component of Albert Capella's group who got to the tournament, playing six times as The Danes went through qualifying unbeaten. The 22-year-old defender has also enjoyed a breakthrough season with Brentford, playing 31 times in all competitions. He played every minute, from the Second Round onwards, of our run to the EFL Cup semi-final and netted his first Bees goal in our Emirates FA Cup Fourth Round defeat to Leicester City in January. He has started our last 13 Sky Bet Championship games, scoring his maiden league goal to wrap up a 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday last month.
