Loan Round-Up: Dom Thompson helps Swindon to League One win at the weekend

The latest details on our loan players

1 March 2021

There was weekend action for some our loan players recently with some mixed results.

Dom Thompson and his Swindon Town side picked up an important three points as they beat Northampton Town in Sky Bet League One. It was a game were they had to come from behind to take the points after Ryan Watson had put The Cobblers in front on 25 minutes. A Scott Twine free-kick levelled the game in first half stoppage time and the winner came through Brett Pitman in the 69th minute. Dom played 57 minutes in the game and the side will travel to Sunderland on Tuesday.

In the same division there was defeat for Ellery Balcombe and Doncaster Rovers as they lost 2-1 to Ipswich Town away from home. Ellery grabbed another 90 minutes of League football in a game where Alan Judge scored on 24 minutes before James Norwood doubled the lead in the second half. Jon Taylor reduced the deficit but Rovers were unable to get back into the game. Doncaster are now sixth in the table and take on Portsmouth at home on Tuesday.

AFC Wimbledon were beaten 3-0 at home by promotion chasing Hull City. Jaakko Oksanen played the final 20 minutes of the game. Josh Magennis converted a first half penalty before Reece Burke made it 2-0 before the break. A second City penalty saw Malik Wilks convert in what was a dominant display from the away side. The Dons will look to bounce back away at Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday.

In Sky Bet League Two Joe Adams played the final 10 minutes for Grimsby Town in their 1-0 defeat to Harrogate. Mark Beck grabbed the only goal of the game and Town will look for an improved result when they welcome Leyton Orient to Blundell Park on Tuesday.

There was a second successive 0-0 draw for Stevenage as they took on Newport County in a match where Arthur Read was an unused substitute. The side are at home to Forest Green Rovers this week.

There was no weekend action for any of our players overseas with Halil Dervişoğlu absent from Galatasaray’s 2-0 win over BB Erzurumspor at home. Mostafa Mohamed grabbed both of the goals for the side on the day as they claimed all three points. In the same division there was defeat for Kasımpaşa S.K. as they were beaten 1-0 by Göztepe S.K. Julian Jeanvier is yet to make his return from a long-term injury.

Legia Warsaw picked up all three points in the Ekstraklasa when they beat Górnik Zabrze 2-1. Bartosz Kapustka found the net on four minutes and Kacper Kostorz found a late winner for Legia after their opponents had levelled before the break. Joel Valencia wasn’t involved for the side on the day.

Patrik Gunnarsson and his Silkeborg IF side will be looking to keep up their good run of form when they take on HB Køge on Sunday.
