Brentford B midfielder Alex Gilbert has earned his first call-up to the Republic of Ireland Under-21 side ahead of the upcoming international break.
Alex, who joined the young Bees in the summer of 2020, has been a regular member for Neil MacFarlane's young Bees so far this season, and will join up with the Irish youngsters ahead of a training camp and a fixture against Wales Under-21s next Friday.
Alex has played 17 times for Brentford B this season and most recently featured in the 2-1 win over Chelsea Under-23s on Wednesday.
The 19-year-old has been involved in the youth setup with Ireland before at Under-19 level and will be aiming for minutes in next week's fixture.
Alex will come up against three of his Brentford B teammates in Nathan Shepperd, Joe Adams and Fin Stevens up in Wrexham as they have been called into the Welsh youth squad.
