Forward set to join young Bees ahead of new season

9 June 2021

Brentford Football Club are pleased to announce the signing of Nathan Young-Coombes who will join Brentford B from Rangers on a three-year contract with a Club option of a further year for an undisclosed fee. The 18-year-old will officially join from 1 July 2021.

The forward, who has also spent time with the likes of Crystal Palace and Chelsea as a youngster, will return south of the border to link up with Neil MacFarlane’s side ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

Nathan has also been involved with England at youth level in recent seasons and will add further strength and competition for places for the young Bees.

He arrived in Scotland at the age of 16, joining the academy at Ibrox and going on to feature in the UEFA Youth League against sides such as Atlético Madrid, Young Boys and Slovan Bratislava. He also featured in the 2019/20 Scottish League Challenge Cup for Rangers U20, netting against Wrexham in a 2-0 win for the Scottish side.

Nathan has been part of the Rangers B setup during the 2020/21 campaign. He featured in games against the likes of Brechin City, Queen’s Park and also found the net against East Stirlingshire for The Gers. The Rangers B side’s schedule was significantly impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic moving into the winter and the second part of the season saw fixtures halted for a number of months.

Having captured the exciting young forward, Brentford B Head Coach Neil MacFarlane said: “We’re delighted that Nathan will be joining us. We know that he has been highly thought of at Rangers and he is the sort of number nine which aren’t easy to find. He’s somebody that will play on the shoulder of defenders, and he can also bring other players into the game. He possesses a real goal threat and a high level of finishing. Once Nathan has got a good pre-season with us under his belt then I’m sure he will fly for us.”
