Benrahma’s final moment of brilliance

After two seasons of magical moments, Saïd Benrahma left us a parting gift ahead of joining West Ham United. The attacker’s impudent nutmeg on Michael Hector and cool finish from 25 yards helped us stroll past Fulham 3-0 in the Carabao Cup Fourth Round. Saïd would then come off the bench the following Sunday against Preston North End to make his 94th and final Bees appearance before his move to The Hammers.

Vitaly Janelt signs

One man watching that goal against Fulham in the stands with interest was Vitaly Janelt. The 22-year-old midfielder completed his move to TW8 the following day, signing a four-year contract. Vitaly’s arrival took on extra significance three days later as Christian Nørgaard limped out of our defeat to Preston North End with an ankle injury which would keep him out of league action well into 2021.

Ivan in the mood

After opening his account against Millwall in late September, Ivan Toney took the Sky Bet Championship by storm in October. Three successive doubles against Preston North End, Coventry City, and Sheffield Wednesday fired him to the top of the second tier goalscoring charts. He also added strikes against Norwich City and Luton Town as he ended the month with eight goals and one assist in six games. Unsurprisingly, that form saw him named the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month.

Deals for David and Dasilva

Two Brentford mainstays of the previous 18 months signed new long-term deals in October. Goalkeeper David Raya and midfielder Josh Dasilva both extended their stays in TW8 through to the summer of 2024 in the early days of the month. It was an extra special week for Josh who would go on to score on his full England Under-21 debut a few days later.

The unbeaten run begins

Little did Bees fans know it but the defeat at Stoke City on 24 October would be our final league loss in nearly four months. The following Tuesday’s visit of Norwich City brought a frustrating point, Kenny McLean’s heavily deflected shot wrong-footed David Raya and trickled in with just three minutes to play. However, at Luton Town four days later The Bees showed what they were capable of with an impressive 3-0 win courtesy of Ivan Toney, Rico Henry, and Marcus Forss.
