Brentford B midfielder Mads Bidstrup has been officially promoted to the First Team squad.
The 20-year-old joined the Club in the summer of 2020 from German side RB Leipzig, and after impressing in performances for the B Team as well as in the First Team environment, he will now make up part of Thomas Frank’s side ahead of the 2021/22 season.
The Dane came through the ranks at Copenhagen before moving to Germany in 2019 where he went on to represent the Under-19 side at Leipzig. Last year he then made the move to West London to link up with Neil MacFarlane’s B Team.
Discussing Mads’ integration into the First Team squad, Brentford Head Coach Thomas Frank said: “I think Mads is another success story from the B Team and the strategy that we have to get young players through. He came to us one year ago, of course with the plan to get him promoted to the First Team at one stage. He was unlucky with his injury, but he’s come through that and is in a really good place now. He has showed an unbelievable mentality and training effort, and I think he can play as a number six or a number eight. His pressing ability is excellent in terms of the area that he is able to cover on the pitch, and he also has the pace on the half turn with the ball to move it forward. He has a very interesting future ahead of him and we can’t wait to keep developing him.”
Brentford B Head Coach Neil MacFarlane is pleased to see another B Team player step up to become part of the First Team squad at Brentford. He said: “We're delighted for Mads. He’s showed fantastic mentality to come back from injury. He’s really kicking on now through the B Team and now the First Team. Once again, we can see the project working in that respect and there’s an exceptional talent there and we all look forward to seeing him continue to develop. His desire is incredible, and he has a really good ability to get around the pitch from central midfield and he trains properly at every single moment. We couldn’t be happier for him.”
