International Recap: Mathias Jensen and Marcus Forss involved during EURO 2020 fixture as Brentford FC sends best wishes to Christian Eriksen

The latest details on our international players

13 June 2021

Two of our players were involved yesterday during Denmark’s opening match of EURO 2020 against Finland in a game which will unfortunately be remembered for an event involving Danish player Christian Eriksen where he sadly collapsed on the field of play.

As the match neared half-time, play was paused as the 29-year-old received medical treatment on the field, and the latest reports suggest that his condition is now stable. Naturally, everyone at Brentford FC sends their best wishes to Christian, his family, and the Danish national team.

Play resumed later in the evening; a decision made by both sets of players. At this point, Brentford’s Mathias Jensen featured for the remainder of the match as he replaced Eriksen, whilst Marcus Forss also earned game time for Finland for the final six minutes of the match. Christian Nørgaard was part of the Denmark match day squad, though was an unused substitute for the fixture.

Despite the result almost feeling irrelevant, it was Finland who took the points as Joel Pohjanpalo headed home a winner in the second half. The Danes had a chance to get back into the game from the penalty spot, but Pierre-Emile Højbjerg saw his attempt well saved by the Finland keeper.

Up next for Denmark is a match with Belgium on Thursday, whilst Finland face Russia on Wednesday.

There was another international fixture yesterday and Tariqe Fosu was an unused substitute as Ghana drew 0-0 in a friendly with Ivory Coast at the Cape Coast Stadium. Ghana return to action in early September with World Cup Qualifiers against Ethiopia and South Africa.
