Thomas Frank previews this afternoon's game against The Foxes

24 January 2021

Ahead of this afternoon's Emirates FA Cup Fourth Round tie, Thomas Frank sat down with the press to preview our visit from Leicester City. See what the boss had to say below.

Thomas on the effects of the Covid-19 shutdown …

It did affect us, definitely; you could see that in the second-half against Luton Town. We started fresh but after 50 minutes there was a complete lack of energy. They didn’t lie on their sofa when the training ground was closed, they were out running, but because they didn’t have that maximum load, you can’t just repeat it. That definitely affected us and we were pleased we still got over the line and got the three points. I spoke to Nathan Jones from Luton Town and he said it was exactly the same for them against QPR in that they couldn’t get the body going. Hopefully now we should be fine.

Thomas on Leicester City …

Everyone, players, coaches, staff, directors, like to compete and challenge against the best teams in the Premier League. That is something we really enjoy going into and we do with a big belief. We are really looking forward to the game tomorrow against a Leicester City side who have done amazingly this season. They narrowly missed out on the top four last year but now are competing for it, and some would say even the Championship, again.

Thomas on looking for a win tomorrow …

We have shown over the last couple of seasons that we like to win football matches and we like to keep momentum going. I like to get that top performance mentality going so I really want to win the game tomorrow. We also know that, starting with Luton, we are going to play 14 games on the bounce, Saturday and midweek. That means I will use the squad but not like a full rotation. We will put a strong team out there tomorrow.

Sometimes you have to give belief to eight, nine, or ten players for a number of games in a row to try and create that connection between the players. I trust all my players and I believe in all my players, but I can’t give all of them 90 minutes every week. I am sure we will perform well again tomorrow.

Thomas on Marcus Forss …

We have big belief in Marcus and we showed that with the long-term extension to his deal. We have a strong belief in him and the Club have a strong belief that he will be a top striker. It will be a really good experience for him tomorrow.

Thomas on taking it one day at a time …

The big thing, and it sounds so simple but isn’t, is to maximise our focus on the next training and then the next match. I know we are playing Swansea City on Wednesday and Wycombe Wanderers the Saturday after but there is no reason to think about those. There is a big task ahead of us [tomorrow] and then if I don’t focus on a good training or recovery session on Monday we will never get to where we want to be to perform again. We need to top perform and make sure we put a maximum effort in tomorrow.

Sunday's game is exclusively live on BT Sport One.

You will not be able to watch live on iFollow Brentford but there will be live commentary from the Brentford Community Stadium with Mark Burridge and the team.
