Brentford's Carabao Cup run came to an end this week but The Bees will now be looking to start one in the Emirates FA Cup. The Bees were beaten by Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday night in the Semi-Final of the Carabao Cup. It was Brentford's sixth game in the competition but the Premier League side will progress to the Carabao Cup Final in April.

That cup run saw wins over Wycombe Wanderers, Southampton, West Bromwich Albion, Fulham and Newcastle United before defeat to Tottenham. Brentford's FA Cup campaign, like that run, will start with a home game against a Sky Bet Championship club. Middlesbrough will be the visitors for a game that will be played on Saturday, 9 January, and kick-off at 6pm.

This will be the second meeting between the teams this season. Middlesbrough came to West London and drew 0-0 in a game last month. The North East side are currently seventh in the Championship table, five points and three places behind The Bees. They are, however, in good form.

Middlesbrough have won four of their last five games and have successive away wins at Birmingham City and Wycombe under their belts. Those were their second and third away wins of the campaign and they scored seven of their 13 away goals this term in the wins. Middlesbrough have also lost five away games so far this season.

This is the seventh season in a row that Brentford have entered at the Third Round stage and been drawn at home. There have been defeats to Walsall, Notts County and Brighton and Hove Albion as well as wins over Eastleigh, Oxford United and, last season, Stoke City. The FA announced last month that all 32 ties will be televised live for fans. See more on that here.

The game on Saturday will, unfortunately, be behind closed doors. It has, however, been confirmed as one of eight fixtures broadcast free to fans on The FA Player, exclusively delivered to homes by Deliveroo. See more on The FA Player and how to watch here.
