After three weeks without a Sky Bet Championship fixture and ten days without a match of any kind, Brentford's 2020/21 season will continue on Wednesday night. The Bees had two matches suspended earlier this week due to reporting positive Covid-19 cases. But they return to action on Wednesday, 19 January, when Luton Town come to West London for a match that will kick-off at 7pm.

The Bees have not played since beating Middlesbrough in the Emirates FA Cup last Saturday. Prior to that they were beaten by Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup Semi-Final. With a 2 January game against Bristol City called off, and then called off again this week, Brentford were last in league action at the end of 2020 when they came from behind to beat AFC Bournemouth thanks to goals from Henrik Dalsgaard and Tariqe Fosu.

That left The Bees second in the Sky Bet Championship table but with other teams playing since, they now sit fourth in the standings. Brentford are nine points behind leaders Norwich City, five behind second placed Swansea City and one behind Bournemouth with two games in hand on each of them. Bournemouth would have been further clear but for defeat yesterday to our next opponents.

That win for Luton took them in to the top half of the Championship. They are seven points behind Reading, who sit sixth, and eight behind The Bees. It also continued an inconsistent run for The Hatters. In their last 11 games in all competitions they have won five and lost four and not had the same result in successive games. They have won four away from home this season but have only scored six times in 12 matches on the road.

Brentford will be looking to complete a Sky Bet Championship double over Luton having won 3-0 away from home in October. Rico Henry, Ivan Toney and Marcus Forss got the goals as The Bees picked up all three points. That was the first game in an unbeaten run away from home in the Sky Bet Championship that now extends to seven games.

The match will, unfortunately, be behind closed doors. It will, however, be available live on iFollow Brentford. As per EFL communication on the broadcast arrangements for the new season, all of a team's games not selected for live coverage by Sky Sports will only be available on that platform. See more here.
