After a false start and two cup games, Brentford will play their first Sky Bet Championship game of 2021 in the coming days. The Bees were due to face Bristol City on Saturday 2 January but that game was suspended and did not take place at scheduled. Since then Brentford gave exited the Carabao Cup at the Semi-Final stage to Tottenham Hotspur and beaten Middlesbrough in the Emirates FA Cup. Now they will continue their league camapign with the rearranged match against Bristol City.

Brentford ended 2020 in the league with a home win over AFC Bournemouth that left them second in the Sky Bet Championship. Results on 2 January pushed The Bees down to fourth but they can climb back in the top three, at least, with a win on Wednesday, 13 January, when Bristol City come to town. Brentford sit six points behind leaders Norwich City and two behind Swansea City, in second, with a game in hand on both. Bournemouth are third, ahead of The Bees on goal difference, and also play this midweek.

City travel to West London with an FA Cup win under their belts. They needed a late goal to beat Portsmouth 2-1 and also made the Fourth Round. They lost to Luton Town in their last league game and that was a fourth defeat in five in the Championship for The Robins with a Boxing Day win over Wycombe Wanderers being their last win. They have lost three in a row away from home since a win over Queens Park Rangers on their last visit to the area. This will be the second year in a row these teams have started the year in opposition in the league after Brentford won 4-0 in Bristol on New Year's Day 2020.

Bristol City currently sit tenth in the table, having earned 33 points from their 22 games. They are eight points behind The Bees and seven adrift of Reading, who sit in sixth, albeit with this game in hand. A run of five defeats in seven and just three wins in their last ten has seen them slip down the table. They have, however, won five of 11 games away from home this season but have drawn only three games all term to give them a high number of defeats.

The match, which kicks off at 7pm, will, unfortunately, be behind closed doors. It will, however, be available live on iFollow Brentford.
