Two of our loan players came up against each other at the weekend as Ellery Balcombe’s Doncaster Rovers overcame Dom Thompson’s Swindon Town.
It would be the South Yorkshire side who would come out on top in Wiltshire with Fejiri Okenabirhie netting twice away from home whilst Hallam Hope’s second half strike wasn’t enough to get Swindon back into the game.
Both Ellery and Dom played 90 minutes as they got more action under their belts at The County Ground. Doncaster now sit fourth in the Sky Bet League One table on 36 points, two points off third place Portsmouth and Darren Moore’s side also have a game in hand. As for Swindon, they are currently 23rd and will be looking to get back to winning ways away at Charlton Athletic on Saturday.
In the same division there was 90 minutes for Jaakko Oksanen too, but he was unable to prevent a defeat for AFC Wimbledon as a ruthless Sunderland claimed a 3-0 win away from home. Charlie Wyke got a hat-trick for the side from the North East with his first of the afternoon coming after 7 minutes. They would be made to wait until the 87th minute for the points to be made safe before their third came in injury time. The Dons will return to action at Portsmouth in midweek.
Elsewhere in the Football League Arthur Read was part of a Stevenage side who claimed a 0-0 draw at home to Tranmere Rovers on Saturday. Arthur played the first 78 minutes of the game at the Lamex Stadium which leaves the side out of the relegation places on goal difference. The side have three games in hand on Grimsby who sit below them, and they also have two games in hand on Scunthorpe United who sit two points ahead of them.
In the Premier League West Ham United picked up another win and Saïd Benrahma played 68 minutes for The Hammers as they beat Burnley 1-0 at home. Michail Antonio got the all-important goal for the side in a win which takes them to ninth in the league.
In Europe, Joel Valencia’s Legia Warsaw begin their return to action following a winter break as they take on Dynamo Kyiv in a friendly today, and there could also be friendly action for Patrik Gunnarsson’s Silkeborg later in the week when they host SønderjyskE.
Kasımpaşa S.K. are in action today as they play BB Erzurumspor at home. Julian Jeanvier is still missing through injury for the Turkish side.
