A referee since the early 1990s, Jeremy Simpson progressed through the North Lancashire and West Lancashire Football Leagues and the Contributory League Referees, before gaining promotion to the Professional Game Match Officials List during the 2005/06 season as an assistant referee.

In 2007, he was an Assistant Referee for the FA Vase Final at Wembley, and was subsequently promoted onto the Select Group 1 and FIFA International list as an Assistant Referee, officiating in the Champions League, UEFA Cup and Internationals as well as serving in the Premier League.

Promoted to the National List in 2012, Simpson has now refereed in the EFL more than 300 times, including 13 Brentford games.

Along the way he has taken charge of our dramatic 3-2 win at home to Portsmouth in April 2013, a 2-1 win over Norwich City at Carrow Road in December 2017, and our 1-1 draw at Elland Road in October 2018. He was also the man in the middle as we ended an 81-year wait for a win away at Middlesbrough with a 2-1 victory there in March 2019.

His only game so far this season came in October as we drew 1-1 at home to Norwich City.

In total, we have won four, drawn six, and lost three of his 13 matches in charge.

So far this season, Simpson has shown 65 yellow cards, and four reds, in 21 competitive fixtures.
