Max Haygarth and one of the Brentford Trialists got the goals at Bisham Abbey in torrential rain throughout the 90 minutes as the young Bees impressed in a fixture they dominated for large parts.

Neil MacFarlane was able to bring back Haygarth and Alex Gilbert into the line-up, both of whom had been involved in the First Team matchday squad for the trip to Swansea City in midweek, therefore missed the last fixture with Wycombe Wanderers. Also among the young Bees' line-up was Gustav Mogensen who made his return from five months out to play the final 30 minutes, whilst a number of Trialists featured throughout.

Both sides traded early possession in the opening 10 minutes which featured a couple of dangerous crosses into the Brentford box, but Tristan Crama and his Trialist central defensive partner were on hand to turn away some threatening deliveries.

After the initial first 10-minute period the young Bees started to see more of the ball and looked threatening in wide areas with Gilbert involved as he linked up with both full backs in Valgeir Valgeirsson and Lewis Gordon as the side looked to pick their way past the Town back line.

An early Gilbert effort from distance would be blocked before Wraynel Hercules, who lead the line from the front from the start, teed up Joe Adams who curled wide of goal with his left foot. Gilbert would then have another attempt from a central free-kick but his effort was straight at the Town goalkeeper who held the powerful shot well.

Jared Thompson would then be called into his first action of the afternoon when Danny Webb’s effort was saved before he was up quick to deny the Hemel Trialist who looked to fire home the rebound effort.

Brentford B’s best chance of the first period came when they broke down the left-hand side before one of the Trialists squared the ball inside to Hercules, who controlled well, but his poked finish was saved by the keeper.

The second period began very much the same way as Neil MacFarlane’s side played the ball around on a slick surface. As they continued to dominate the ball, they got their reward when they went ahead just before the hour mark.

A Valgeirsson cross found its way to Gilbert, whose shot was then blocked, but as Brentford recycled possession he crossed low, and with the help of a deflection into the path of Haygarth, he swept home to make it 1-0.

Brentford B would be tested just a few minutes after going ahead when another Hemel Trialist tried his luck from 10-yards, and credit to the back line, who stood firm to block well before the rebound was fired over by the opponents.

The game was made safe on 70 minutes, though, with Mogensen making an instant impact with a powerful drive down the right-hand side before his fantastic cross towards one of the Trialists saw him nod home from close range as he used all of the power on the ball to guide it home.

It almost became three on 76 minutes when Gilbert drove the team forwards from the centre of midfield, and despite having bodies around him, he managed to shift the ball onto his right just outside the box before his curled effort deflected kindly for the keeper to collect.

With just four minutes to play Mogensen was then denied a dream return from injury when a fantastic through ball from Lachlan Brook fell perfectly into the path of The Dane, but with just the keeper to beat, his right footed effort ended up just the wrong side of the post which confirmed that The Bees would claim a 2-0 victory.
