The match was level at 3-3 going into the shootout which the away side won 6-5 on penalties. Denizlispor took the lead early on and lead 2-1 at half-time. Halil Dervişoğlu got on the scoresheet just three minutes after coming on as a substitute in the second half to make it 2-2. It looked as though the turnaround was complete when Mostafa Mohamed found the net just one minute after Halil, but an own goal from Victor Nelsson ensured the match would finish 3-3 with nine minutes of added time played before the game went to extra time and then penalties. Halil netted in the shootout defeat and the side will look to bounce back when they play Giresunspor on 8 January.

AFC Wimbledon returned to action with a 3-0 defeat away at Oxford United in Sky Bet League One. The goals came from Mark Sykes, Matty Taylor and Sam Long as The Dons sit 18th in the league table. Aaron Pressley missed the game due to injury and next up for The Dons is a match with Boreham Wood in the Emirates FA Cup Third Round.

As for Swindon Town, Alex Gilbert wasn’t involved in their 0-0 draw with Stevenage on Wednesday in Sky Bet League Two. Town are away at Northampton Town on New Year's Day and they currently sit 7th in the division. Ellery Balcombe's Burton Albion have their eyes set on a match with Crewe Alexandra on 1 January and they have missed three successive games in the league.

As for Jaakko Oksanen, he was an unused substitute for Greenock Morton as they drew 1-1 with Kilmarnock in the Scottish Championship.
