Brentford have signed Denmark international goalkeeper Jonas Lössl. The 32-year-old has joined from FC Midtjylland, the Danish Superliga side where Brentford FC Owner Matthew Benham has the majority shareholding. He has initially arrived at Brentford on loan until the end of the 2021/22 season, subject to international clearance.

Jonas will formally join Brentford when the Transfer Window opens tomorrow, Saturday 1 January. He will be available to play when international clearance is received. There is an option to make the deal permanent which would contract Jonas to Brentford until the summer of 2023.

Jonas has played most of his football for FCM, as they are known, having come through the ranks there. He has experience of English football and the Premier League, having played for Huddersfield Town and been on the books at Everton. He has also played in France and Germany and won international honours.

Thomas Frank, Brentford FC Head Coach, said: “Jonas is a very good goalkeeper who will bring with him lots of experience. He has played in England and in the Premier League and we also know him from his work with FCM. He fits the criteria of what we want in a goalkeeper with his feet and in his penalty area.

“The most important thing is that he will add to the experience within our goalkeeper group in our first Premier League season. We have David Raya injured and Álvaro Fernández has missed some training recently. This gives us an extra experienced goalkeeper in training and also someone who has played Premier League games and will be used to that matchday environment if he starts a game for us.”

Manu Sotelo, Brentford FC Goalkeeper Coach, said: “It will be great to welcome Jonas to our goalkeeper union. He will reinforce the group with his experience and commitment. There are a lot of strengths to his game - decision making, positioning and control of his penalty area, especially dealing with crosses. His work ethic will help everyone in the group to step up and I am sure he will also continue to improve.”

Jonas made his debut for FCM just past his 21st birthday and played more than 120 league games before leaving to join En Avant Guingamp in the French top flight. He has two years there and a season at 1. FSV Mainz 05 before a move to Huddersfield. He was first choice at Huddersfield for their two Premier League seasons, playing 69 top flight games.

Jonas joined Everton when Huddersfield were relegated but re-joined the Yorkshire side on loan in early 2020. He left Everton at the start of 2021 and returned to FCM. He has played 18 games for FCM this season, keeping six clean sheets.

Jonas has played for Denmark at every level from Under-17 to full international. He has earned one full international cap, in 2016, but played regularly at youth international level. Jonas has played 23 times for his country overall.
