Nottinghamshire FA referee David Coote will be the man in charge on Wednesday night at home to Manchester City.

Coote, the son of former Nottinghamshire CCC batsman David Edward Coote, started refereeing as a 16-year-old, working his way up from the Notts Alliance League to the Conference North, before his promotion to the Football League list in 2010. In May 2014, he was the referee for the League One play-off Final at Wembley between Leyton Orient and Rotherham United and took charge of his first Premier League game in April 2018.

We have lost only three of the 17 games which he has officiated, with seven wins and seven draws. Coote was the referee for our 2-1 win over Fulham in November 2014 and our 2-2 draw at Craven Cottage the following December. He also took charge of a 3-0 home win against Aston Villa and a 2-0 Griffin Park victory over Leeds United, during the 2016/17 campaign.

Last season Coote took our September draw away at Millwall, awarding us a penalty from which Ivan Toney opened his Bees account, before overseeing our home defeat to Barnsley in February, which ended our 21-game unbeaten run in the Sky Bet Championship.

Coote's only previous Brentford game this term was our 2-2 draw with Leeds United at the start of December.

So far this campaign, Coote has taken charge of 13 matches, showing 58 yellow cards and three reds. He has shown the second most yellow cards (52) of all Premier League referees.
