Next Up: Crystal Palace

First away game of the season next week

14 August 2021

The Premier League season is up and running and Brentford kicked off their season with a win. The Bees beat Arsenal under the lights at our new stadium last night in the first game of the 2021/22 season. Brentford's frist away game of the season is next up and is a trip to Crystal Palace. The match will be played next Saturday, 21 August, at Selhurst Park. It will kick-off at 3pm

Brentford’s first top flight game since 1947 finished with a well-earned victory yesterday, thanks to goals from Sergi Canós and Christian Nørgaard. Canós struck midway through the first half, becoming the first Brentford player to score a top division goal since Len Townsend more than seven decades ago. Nørgaard headed home in the second half to seal a win that The Bees deserved.

It has been a weekend of home wins so far with only Brighton and Hove Albion and Liverpool picking up victories on the road. Crystal Palace were one of the teams defeated on their travels, losing 3-0 at Chelsea. They conceded three times within the first hour to slip to an opening day defeat.

For both Brentford and Palace it will be two London derbies in two weeks. This is a fixture that has not been played often in the last 60 years. The teams met regularly in the third tier in the 1920s and 30s and then in the 1950s and 60s but the last league meeting was in 1964, which Palace won at Selhurst Park.

The teams did meet in the EFL Cup in 1977. Brentford won the first game of a two-legged tie at Griffin Park but were beaten 5-1 in the reverse game. There has not been a competitive meeting since.

Tickets are currently on sale to Season Ticket Holders with 1,500+ TAPs. They will go on sale to all Season Ticket Holders on Monday, 16 August. Full ticket information can be seen here.

The match will not be live on UK TV but Brentford fans can listen live on Bees Player. Full information on the service can be seen here. Bees fans living overseas should check this page to see if they can watch the game live.
