The match against the National League side will be taken by the B Team coaching staff and is likely to see the majority of the line-up made up of B Team players.

The young Bees will be aiming to bounce back from defeat at Dulwich Hamlet last weekend as many of the players are set to get more game time under their belts during pre-season. They had a great start to the campaign where they beat League One side Cambridge United 3-1 and they’ll be looking to replicate a similar performance when they come up against Phil Brown’s men.

As for Southend, they are preparing for their first season outside of the Football League since 1920 having suffered relegation from League Two back in May. United have been in pre-season action against the likes of Dartford, Harlow Town and a West Ham United XI.

They get their National League campaign under way on Saturday 21 August when they head to Kings Lynn Town before welcoming Stockport County to Roots Hall one week later.

Neil MacFarlane’s thoughts

Brentford B Head Coach Neil MacFarlane is looking forward to the test from United as the side aim to bounce back.
