World Cup Qualifiers ahead for Forss and Finland next month

Bees striker in squad for September games

24 August 2021

Marcus Forss has been included in the Finland squad for September's round of 2022 World Cup Qualifiers.

First up for the Eagles Owls is a friendly against Wales in Helsinki next Wednesday, 1 September, kick-off 5pm UK time. Markku Kanerva's squad then stay in the Finnish capital for their qualifier against Kazakhstan on Saturday, 4 September, kick-off 2pm UK time. Three days later they head to Lyon to take on reigning World Cup Champions, France, kick-off 7.45pm.

Finland have drawn their opening two games in Group D, against Ukraine and Bosnia and Herzegovina, to sit third, a point behind Ukraine in second and five behind early pace-setters France but with a game in hand on both.

Marcus has fond memories of playing against France after scoring on his senior international debut at the Stade de France last November. That is Marcus' only goal so far in seven Finland outings, two of which came off the bench at this summer's European Championships.

The 22-year-old reached double figures for The Bees in all competitions last season, scoring the deciding goal in our Play-Off Semi-Final victory over AFC Bournemouth. The Brentford B graduate passed 50 First-Team appearances as well last term before making his Premier League bow against Arsenal 11 days ago.
