Both teams got off to a nervous start, with six points to play for across two games in one afternoon. An early shot from Shannon Read almost found the net but a smart save by the keeper saw it tipped wide.

Jasmine Williamson broke the deadlock in the first half. She latched on to a long ball over the top, finishing past the keeper from close range.

Watford played some very nice football in the second half but the final ball was often off target as they struggled to complete their passes in the final third. The Hornets came close to an equaliser late in the game with the ball striking the underside of the crossbar, Iguchi relived to see her defenders clear it long.

Read had a chance to double the score right at the death but clipped the ball narrowly over the crossbar.
