Match Report and Match Highlights: Brentford B 2 Sheffield United Under-23s 2

Young Bees held at Bisham Abbey

9 April 2021

Brentford B drew 2-2 with Sheffield United Under-23s at Bisham Abbey on Wednesday afternoon.

Aaron Pressley and Ryan Trevitt had given the side a 2-0 advantage going into the break but the opposition battled back to earn a draw with two second half strikes.

As was the case on Easter Sunday in the 3-2 win over Arsenal, Brentford B put in an electric display in the first 45 minutes with a host of chances created.

It took the side six minutes to create their first real opportunity as one of the Trialists picked up the ball just inside the box before his powerful effort was well stopped. The same Trialist, just a moment later, would then cut into the box from the left before once again being denied by the United shot stopper.

Good interplay between the midfield and the front three was the constant theme as Mads Bidstrup marshalled things whilst the lively Trevitt looked to give and go with the likes of Pressley and Lachlan Brook. Both Pressley and Trevitt would have early sighters, the former dragging an effort wide before the midfielder had his left footed effort well blocked by United.

On 20 minutes Neil MacFarlane’s side took the lead as Pressley earned his 17th goal of the season, with help from a fortunate deflection. After some good play out on the left, Pressley worked himself some space before shooting towards goal, and the ball flicked off the leg of the defender before it looped over the keeper and into the net.

Brook then smashed an effort off the post as he continued his excellent form with lively wing play from the right-hand side.

That preceded the second goal from Trevitt just after the half hour mark as he was found out on the left before tricking his way into the box and hitting a powerful effort inside the near post as the side doubled their advantage.

An exciting first 45 minutes should have seen another goal when Bidstrup sent an excellent low cross towards the near post, and despite Pressley losing his man and connecting well, his effort came back off the woodwork.

The final action of the first period saw the Yorkshire side come close to pulling a goal back when the lively Iliman Ndiaye curled an effort from distance against the crossbar from the edge of the Brentford box.

Credit to the opposition, who came out with an intent to chase and hurry the Brentforf back line after the break. After having a sighter just before half-time, Ndiaye made no mistake on 51 minutes as he curled another effort towards goal, this time beating Jared Thompson and ending in the top corner.

It was almost 3-1 just five minutes later as Brentford had another good chance and Brook cut in from the right before curling an effort towards the top corner, and credit to the United keeper, who pushed the ball onto the bar to keep out the Australian.

Daniel Jebbinson then tried his luck for United but Thompson was equal to the attempt, and The Bees then had another chance just before the hour as a Brentford corner wasn’t cleared initially and Gustav Mogensen headed towards the far post, but for a clearance off the line from Sheffield.

Both sides continued to make changes following the hour mark and that preceded a United equaliser as Zak Brunt found the net. After not dealing with an initial long ball forward, Sheffield got things going quickly from a throw-in before the Sheffield man wasn’t closed down as he bended the ball into the corner from the edge of the box to make it 2-2.

As they tried to replicate the Arsenal result from Sunday, The Bees looked for a winner going into the final 10 minutes. A really good opening came when Pressley, who was always willing to work the channels, created some space on the right before sending in an excellent cross which just evaded the onrushing Mogensen as the game finished level.
